Gallery: Rotary Easter Egg Hunt

The Orange Rotary Club held its first community Easter egg hunt Sunday, March 26, outside of Orange Elementary School. The event was rescheduled from its original Saturday date due to weather, but that didn’t keep away a sizeable crowd of kids and family members, who eagerly scoured the lawn for hidden treasures.

Rotary Club member Pat McAloon said that the idea for the event came from fellow member Jess Cifizzari, who took part in previous hunts organized by the former Orange Kiwanis Club. With the Kiwanis Club no longer around to host the events, the Rotarians decided to pick up the mantle in an effort to make sure that families would have a free, fun activity to attend during the holiday season.

McAloon reported that club members were extremely happy with attendance at the celebration, and that the Rotary Club intends to make the Easter egg hunt an annual tradition.

“One of the things that Rotary does is to create a sense of community,” he explained. “When we have events that bring people together, it helps to show that we’re all one family — and chocolate and Twizzlers seem to have a way of bringing people together.”

In addition to filling up their baskets with candy, children in attendance received free learning materials and took pictures with the Easter bunny.

McAloon said that those who wish to support the Rotary Club can do so by attending the organization’s annual barbecue and auction fundraiser on Saturday, April 15, at 6 p.m. The fundraiser will take place at Rounton Farm, located at 10155 Rapidan Road in Orange, and proceeds will benefit Rotary Club’s scholarship fund for OCHS graduates.
