Cones and Community: 2 Scoops Celebrates Ribbon Cutting

The Orange County Chamber of Commerce held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, Sept. 28, to celebrate the hot new place to get a cool treat in downtown Orange: 2 Scoops Sweets and Treats.

Nestled between Mama’s Pizza and 6R’s Entertainment Yard on East Washington Street, 2 Scoops sells a variety of Hershey’s ice creams and homemade desserts including lemon bars, muffins, brownies and hot and iced coffee. However, the shop isn’t limited to just “sweet treats” — they also serve savory options like deli sandwiches and hot dogs, and will be adding soups to the menu this fall.

Owner Jackie Kanupp said that public reception to the new business has been “fantastic” since 2 Scoops opened its doors earlier this summer.

“People have been sharing on social media about us and telling friends,” she said. “It's been a pretty even split of people finding us on Google that are just traveling through, and then local people that are really loyal and come back at least once a week to get ice cream or anything else that the shop offers. It's been really wonderful.”

Kanupp also shared that the location of the business between an arcade and a pizza shop has created an ideal opportunity to partner with other local businesses and provide a safe hangout spot for youth and families.

“There’s been a lot of collaboration, and we’re hoping this part of Orange can be a family-friendly place where you can come and enjoy all the amenities,” she said.

Her next-door neighbor, Steve Riner of 6R’s Entertainment Yard, agreed.

“It’s an absolute blessing,” he said. “To be honest with you, I can't think of another business I'd put here that could be more mutually beneficial than an ice cream shop next to an arcade. I mean, that's just a good, long day of family fun.”

2 Scoops Sweets and Treats is located at 110A E. Washington St. in Orange. Business hours are noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, closed on Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. the rest of the week. For more information, visit the shop’s Facebook page here.
