Iron Pipe Alewerks is a popular weekend spot for music lovers in Orange.

The scents of fresh bread, tomato sauce and hops wrap around you as soon as you walk inside the family-owned brewpub and slip through the crowded bar to the patio outside. Scattered heaters keep everyone cozy, and café lights twinkle across the ceiling of the tent. The beer splashes in overflowing cups and the pizza is served piping hot as Brisk plays a set full of nostalgia for those who grew up in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Brisk is a ’90s alt-rock band based out of Fredericksburg. They play hits like Bush’s “Glycerine,” REM’s “Losing My Religion” and Lit’s “My Own Worst Enemy.” On Saturday at Iron Pipe, they had a trio there consisting of frontman Mark Euker on guitar, Ryan Persinger on bass and Cecilia Garvey playing fiddle and providing vocals.

Other members of the band are vocalist and violinist Robyn Bauer, vocalist and musician Eddie Dickerson, drummer Mike Pingley and vocalist Chelsea Cameron.

Their utter joy in music comes through in their energy as they perform, bringing back a childhood spent raging against the machine. Instead of full grunge, there’s a fun bluegrass element to their songs, bringing new life to old favorites.

When they play “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood the crowd joins in, singing cheerfully about property damage.

Brisk plays across Virginia and Maryland, so check out their site for their show schedule. They’ll be back in Orange at Iron Pipe on Friday, Feb. 24, if you missed your chance to check them out this month.

Located in the historic Silk Mill building, Iron Pipe sells brick oven pizzas and craft beers with names like Gandalf the Haze and Boba Festt. They host live music every weekend, so there’s always music to enjoy while you grab a drink and pizza with friends or family. Visit their website at www.ironpipealewerks.com or their Facebook page to keep up with events.
