Miyares and Freitas Endorse Higginbotham for OC Commonwealth’s Attorney
Two well-known Republican state politicians have endorsed Page Higginbotham in the race for Orange County Commonwealth’s Attorney.
Higginbotham, who is running for the second time against incumbent Diana Wheeler O’Connell, announced in a press release late last week that he had received endorsements from Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and Del. Nick Freitas.
The 2019 race for the same office was one of the tightest in recent Orange County history, with O’Connell ultimately besting Higginbotham by 27 votes and a recount confirming the initial results. Both candidates are running as independent in the upcoming November election.
“I am pleased to endorse Page Higginbotham for Commonwealth's Attorney because he will respect victims, restore integrity to this office, and work with police to enforce the rule of law,” Miyares stated in the release. “When Commonwealth Attorneys consistently enforce consequences for criminal activity, crime goes down and communities are safer. As the Attorney General of Virginia, I firmly believe that we must stand with victims and the brave police officers who put their lives on the line to protect our communities. One way we can do this is by ensuring we have prosecutors who will consistently enforce our laws.”
“Victims must see the Commonwealth’s Attorney as their champion as they work to uncover the truth and seek justice,” Freitas said. “I know that Page Higginbotham will bring these qualities with him in his bid to serve as the Commonwealth’s Attorney, and I am proud to offer my endorsement.”
Higginbotham is a lifelong Orange County resident who lives on a cattle farm outside of the town of Orange with his wife and sons. A third-generation attorney, he graduated summa cum laude from the University of Richmond, attended the University of Richmond School of Law, and is currently a partner at the law office of Higginbotham & Reid in downtown Orange.
“I am pleased that both Attorney General Miyares and Delegate Freitas are paying close attention to the issues facing our county, and are offering their support to bring change in November,” Higginbotham said in the release. “Crime victims in our county deserve communication and respect, as do the members of our law enforcement community.”
